Basketball Icon Dies at 83

Jerry West, a legendary NBA player who helped the Los Angeles Lakers to the NBA championship in 1972 and whose iconic silhouette became the inspiration for the league's logo, has died at the age of 83.

West, who starred for the Lakers from 1960 to 1974, was an All-NBA performer in 12 of his seasons and was named the NBA Finals MVP in 1969. He also played for the Philadelphia Warriors for two seasons and won an NBA championship with them in 1967.

West was a 14-time All-Star, one-time scoring champion, one-time NBA champion, and one-time NBA Finals MVP. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980 and was named to the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team in 1996.

After his playing career, West became a general manager for the Lakers and played a key role in acquiring some of the biggest names in NBA history, including Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Shaquille O'Neal.

West's passing is a major loss for the NBA community and for basketball fans around the world. He was a true icon of the game and his legacy will live on forever.
